Yehuda Berg told a story at Shabbat once. It was about a man who heard the voice of the Creator tell him to go push a huge boulder outside. The man proceeded to do as he was told and found a huge boulder to move. He pushed and he pushed, but the rock wouldn’t budge.

Everyday he went to the rock and he pushed until he was exhausted.

Then one day, he looked up to the sky and shaking his fists in the air he yelled, “I quit!! I’m pushing, but the rock won’t move!!!”

As he turned to leave the man heard the voice of the Creator say to him, “I didn’t tell you to move the rock. I just told you to push it.”

That is all that God ever asks of us, to keep pushing through our challenges as overwhelming and as hard as it can be.

As much as we want to quit, all we have to do is keep pushing. God will do the rest.

Being on this spiritual path, studying and practicing the teachings of the Kabbalists, is one of the most challenging things I have done or will do in my life.

In the past few weeks I have felt like walking away and giving up. Then I received this amazing message through the quote by Tom Hanks at the beginning of this post.

Yes, the challenge can be overwhelming sometimes, but it is in living Kabbalah that I find my strength to continue.

Truth be told, I wouldn’t have it any other way.

The New Year is on!

All those wishes and changes and vessel-building—now it’s time to start putting our money where our mouths are, so to speak.

Oh boy. We’ve all made a lot of promises to ourselves. How are we going to keep them all?

Baby steps, my friends. Baby steps. That’s the name of the game. Slow and gradual.

Today, don’t overwhelm yourself with thoughts of how you’re gonna get up that mountain. Just start walking. One baby step at a time

There’s nothing worse than having something inside us and not being able to share it with someone. Part of what helps us reach those levels of fulfillment is sharing who we are with people.

2,000 years ago, when Rav Shimon, author of Kabbalah’s holiest text, The Zohar, was hiding from the Romans in a cave (and channeling the wisdom that would become the basis of all Kabbalistic study), he received a message. A dove flew into his cave carrying a piece of paper with a question sent by his students from whom he was separated.

When he saw the question, he started to cry. It was painful for him to have the knowledge and yet have no one with whom to share it.

Today, share yourself. Let your friends and loved ones know how you are feeling and what is going on inside. We are programmed NOT to share but in truth, that’s how we achieve happiness.

We want to life to be easy—no battles, no demons, no doubts.

We’re in the wrong life if that’s what we want. Hope I didn’t burst your bubble. But as you probably figured out by now, the work never stops. Life is about constant change and growth—ups and downs, pushing and pulling. And ultimately, transformations!

Remember what the kabbalists teach us: 



CHAOS CAN ALWAYS BE TURNED INTO BLESSINGS.

Besides, life is boring without the challenges. You’ve seen those emergency room scenes in the movies, or perhaps first hand. The doctors furiously working to save a guy’s life and then, that dreaded sound: beeeeeeeeeeeeeep. Flat line. Game over. Death, the final frontier.

With that in mind, appreciate your obstacles today. Learn to see them for what they are: opportunities to elevate your mind, body and soul.

I have the most amazing dreams. (My Moon is in Scorpio and located in the Eighth House of my Astrology chart.) It is a blessing and a gift that I am truly grateful to have received from the Creator.

One of the most vivid, spectacular dreams I have ever had was one in which I saw myself standing on the edge of a cliff staring at the sun across a vast body of water I can only assume was the ocean.

In the dream, I looked back over my shoulder and said, “You have to be careful connecting to the Light of the Creator or you might hurt yourself.”

I then returned to staring at the sun and the dream ended.

I have shared this dream with two of my spiritual teachers, but neither has told me what the dream meant.

I guess I’m not ready to receive the message and meaning of the dream yet.

It was beautiful, simple, and pure. I can still clearly see the imagery of the dream and remember the sublime feeling of complete peace and love I felt when I awoke that morning.

“As a blade slices and separates material things and divides them into two, so, in the same way, a difference of form or essence separates spiritual substances and divides them into two parts.” (Rav Ashlag)

By writing ‘a difference of form,’ Rav Ashlag is referring to the fact that when we act in accordance with the essence of the Light, we feel whole. But when we act in disaccord, we invite chaos in.

One thing we can each do today to achieve a similarity of form, is to see the good in others. When we see good especially when we want to see bad we instantly feel reconnected.

Love someone for who they are today, not who you hope they will become tomorrow or the person you think they should be.

Lesson the Second

You must always be exactly who you are. No one will ever truly love you if you hide behind the mask you wear to please them.

You must be loved for your true self or not at all.

Lesson the Third

Love yourself exactly the way you are right now, not for who you hope to become tomorrow or who you think you should be or the things you hope to accomplish.

No one else will truly be able to love you if you do not love yourself.

Lesson the Fourth

No one relationship or thing in your life can completely fulfill all of your needs.

Our souls came here to experience life, to live and and explore all of the possibilities that life has to offer.

We must seek growth in all areas—career, spirituality, family, friends, artistic/creative expression, parenting—to feel fulfillment that is lasting and real.

We must be whole and complete in every possible way. Becoming complete is being a multifaceted jewel that sparkles when the Light shines on it from many different sources.
